Blogging is one of my favorite hobbies.
That statement may or may not offend some other bloggers (and I hope it doesn’t because I don’t mean it to!) since a lot of them start their blog aka “business” with the end goal to make a full-time income from home. But the truth is we all gotta start somewhere, and you can’t expect to make that full-time income overnight. For those of you asking yourself “ Should I start a blog? ” The answer should be 100% yes!
The idea of starting a blog came to me originally through my crochet projects, and just plain boredom. I was looking for a platform to share my creative inspiration and other ideas that would occasionally pop in my head. Sitting still is something I struggle with, so I always need to be active and doing at least something mentally stimulating. That’s when I began asking myself ” Should I start a blog? ”
So, I began doing my research. I looked into startup costs, getting your own website (domain name), different types of blogging platforms and topics, web hosting, and all those other fancy-schmancy blogging terms. A few weeks later, “Let the Joy Begin” (my OG blog) was up and running!
After several changes and a little rebranding action, I now have my current blog Raindrops and Rosé and I love it like my child :’). If you’re in a similar boat and are asking yourself the same question, “ Should I start a blog? ” Here’s why blogging can be one of the best hobbies:
Should I Start a Blog? Here’s Why Blogging is One of The Best Hobbies:
Blogging is a creative outlet.
Blogging is one of the best ways to let your creativity really shine. I like to use the term “creative” loosely since it’s often associated with the artistic DIY crowd. Don’t fall into that trap!
Blogging is a dynamic hobby, so constantly changing up your post ideas is essential. For example, if you decided to blog about food, you wouldn’t write about the same spaghetti and meatballs recipe every time, now would you? One day you can write about breakfast, the next day an ULTRA MEGA CHOCOLATE CAKE. Industry trends (food, fashion, tech, beauty etc.) are constantly shifting, and your new posts get to change along with it! Those engines in your brain keep moving and your blog is a great space to really let those ideas flow.
As a lifestyle blogger, I find myself coming up with dozens of post ideas a day. Now I just have to remember to start writing them down ?.
It’s a great way to relieve stress.
Almost every time you look up ways to relieve stress and anxiety, they’ll always recommend writing or journaling. As long as you’re completely comfortable posting things online, you can literally use your blog as an online diary.
I find myself being much less anxious after writing my blog posts. Whether it’s changing my mindset or just distracting me from my sometimes-overactive thoughts, it seems to be working, so I’ll take it!

I AM SO PROUD OF MY BLOG, I WANT TO SCREAM IT FROM THE MOUNTAINS!
If you don’t like your blog and aren’t proud of it, you aren’t doing it right, ladies! After all, what’s the point of having a hobby you don’t enjoy and aren’t excited about?!
I love setting goals for my blog to increase traffic and post consistently. When you hit those goals, no matter how big or how small, you just feel so DAMN good. Not only that, but the blogging community is one of the most supportive around. Pinterest group boards and Facebook Groups exist where you can get helpful hints and blogging tips from some of the best in the industry.
Spread knowledge through your blog.
This one is definitely one of my favorite parts of blogging. Everyone knows something you don’t, and you know something that everyone else doesn’t! What better reason to blog than to share those helpful quirks or tips and tricks with other people.
Often, the goal of blogging is to make our lives simpler, easier and sweeter. Teaching others about new fashion trends, or how to do a winged eyeliner without using 18 million q-tips will definitely work to improve our lives, even if it’s just the little things.
You learn A LOT.
Attacking things head on is the fastest way to learn, and what better way to learn all that good tech stuff then by starting a blog. I When I first started blogging had no idea what a domain name was or how to work WordPress, but now I am super comfortable navigating through widgets and plugins galore.
If you desire to promote your blog and get a following you’ll have the opportunity to expand your knowledge about branding and social media marketing.
*Bonus points,* you can totally add all your newly found skills to your resume and LinkedIn profile.
Improve your writing skills.
Practice makes progress! The more you work on your writing, the better it is you’ll get. With writing, you can give people an idea of who you are and the goals you want to achieve through your blog. Writing is used in so many circumstances, so you’ll improve your overall skillset while enjoying yourself and blogging it up! No more writing 1500 word required papers about Ancient Mythology (unless you love it)!
Opportunities to earn extra Ca$h.
“Should I start a blog?” If you want to earn some side hustle income–you better consider it! If you so desire, you can monetize your blog and earn a side passive income (or even a full-time income if you work hard enough)!
With blogging, you can join affiliate programs and earn a small commission when you recommend and advertise certain products. A ton of different programs are out there, so you can really customize it to what you’re writing about on your blog. For example, I’m signed up for ShareASale, where they have vendors like Craftsy, Wayfair and more.
You can also offer a service such as online consulting, or even create an Ebook. If you’re all about the DIY, you can even sell your products through your blog.
Like I said earlier, the blogging community is one of the most supportive and helpful communities that I’ve ever been a part of. Everyone is super supportive and wants you to succeed. You’ll feel totally comfortable asking for advice and tips. You can even try to guest post/collaborate with other bloggers in your niche.
With blogging, you’ll get to work with awesome people, create awesome content you love, and even work to grow your professional network.
And one of my favorite reasons why you should start a blog: It’s so fun!
I love setting goals for myself and my blog, and it’s so rewarding to be able to share stories and lifestyle tips with other 20-something women like me. It’s one of my favorite hobbies, and I plan on sticking with it for as long as I can.
If you’re like me and are looking for a creative space to share your ideas, ask yourself one more time ” should I start a blog? ” and take the leap! You won’t regret it.
If you’re already a blogger, share why you think blogging is the best in the comments!
